The year long study abroad experience is undoubtedly the most complex of the study abroad lengths as there are additional considerations to financials, academics and visa stipulations and regulations. As a year long student, you will matriculate in the Fall term with all other international and British and European students alike.
Most year long students will choose to return to the United States during the Christmas break. Being abroad consecutively for both Fall and Spring term can be socially taxing and many wish to catch up with friends and family for the holidays. After returning from Christmas break, you will continue with your studies in the Spring term.
Year long study abroads are becoming less and less popular in lieu of either short term Summer programs or traditional semester based programs, however, in some instances year long study abroads are actually a better fit academically and socially.
