The attractive campus is within walking distance of the city center which offers a great shopping, and restaurants and sports facilities (including the Winchester Sports Stadium). 

Winchester boasts an extensive modern library, new and well-equipped IT Centres and an active Student Union with over 100 sports and society clubs for all students. The University Centre provides a number of key social facilities for the whole University community. It includes a 1,200 venue space complete with bars and cinema and a range of catering options.

You will be joining a student community of nearly 6,500 students, with more than 600 international students from 60 countries. Study abroad students benefit from additional international support services such as airport meet and greets, accommodation check in support, specialized international welcome orientation and activities and more to help you settle into your study abroad experience. During Welcome Week, study abroad students will participate in special study abroad UK study skills workshops to help you get used to the UK higher education system. Additionally, you will meet one to one with international staff during your study abroad enrolment/class selection session to finalize your classes.  

Campus Life

The University of Winchester is a cultural center, located just a 10 minutes' walk from the city center of Winchester, which is an extraordinarily safe city. If you are looking for a campus, community based university located in a medium sized, history rich city, than Winchester is for you. With easy and frequent train access to London, you can choose to explore England’s capital city or use it as an access point to other parts of the country. The student union is responsible for running over 100 sports and society clubs for all students, including study abroad, to get involved with. During the 2014/2015 academic year, the study body voted their first International Student (An American!) as the 2015/2016 Student Union President who looks after student life at Winchester.


Study abroad students are taught alongside British students enrolled on full degree courses and receive strong academic support. UK universities expect students to self-manage their time between lectures, tutorials and independent study hours. Additional support services are available for study abroad students to help you adjust to the UK higher education system and be successful in your study abroad.


Study abroad students are guaranteed housing with all our UK university partners. Typically, study abroad students are integrated and mixed with British, European and other international students. Because Winchester is located just a short train ride to London, living on a self-contained campus with access to London is the best of both worlds. The University's roots date back to 1840 when it was founded by the Church of England. In 2004 it was granted degree awarding powers, officially establishing itself as the University of Winchester. The University continues to strengthen its position as a top provider of higher education, currently ranked tenth for teaching excellence in England in The Times and The Sunday Times 2016 Good University Guide, and fourth for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey 2015.

Winchester is a little over an hour South West from London and about 30 minutes North of Southampton and the Southern coast of England.
