Welcome/Orientation

Located just three hours from London, Swansea University, with a student population of 16,000 of which 2000 are international, is a welcoming institution located in south-west Wales, and is a top 30 UK research institution, boasting two excellent campuses. There's stunning coastal scenery on their doorstep, they’re on the edge of the beautiful Gower Peninsula, yet within easy reach of Swansea city center, which offers a thriving cultural scene and the best of modern city life.

The Singleton Park campus, is a traditional campus founded in 1920 which enjoys an enviable position, being set in mature parkland and botanical gardens, overlooking Swansea Bay and offers programmes in the following disciplines: College of Arts and Humanities; College of Law; College of Human and Health Science; College of Science; College of Medicine. The Bay campus, opened in September 2015, is a £450 million initiative, specifically for the College of Engineering and School of Management. This also enjoys a coastal location and being the largest knowledge economy project in the UK, offers cutting edge facilities for its students. Campus Life

The student union is responsible for running all sports and society clubs for students, including study abroad, to get involved with. This is a perfect opportunity to meet students outside of your classes and residence halls. Since Swansea is perhaps most popular for its array of beaches, a new watersports center was opened in 2012 offering beach and water-based sports such as windsurfing, kitesurfing and beach volleyball.

Swansea University is right at the heart of the action, having one of Wales’ finest sporting institutions. Its International Sports Village is an exceptional facility for both elite and recreational sport. It has also continued to develop facilities off site with an £11m investment by Swansea City Football Club, (which enjoys Premier League status), in the University’s Fairwood training pitches.

Academics

Swansea University not only ranks in the world’s top 5% of universities for teaching excellence (QS Stars) but is also one of the best universities for overall student experience and student services (What Uni, 2014 and Times Higher Education Award, 2013). Many of the university's undergraduate programs allow British students to study abroad for a year during their degree, a unique concept to UK universities, exemplifying a serious commitment to study abroad. At Swansea University, study abroad students are taught alongside British students enrolled on full degree courses. There are currently around 350 undergraduate courses available with world-leading research to help facilitate an outstanding environment for student study 

UK universities expect students to self-manage their time between lectures, tutorials and independent study hours. Additional support services are available for study abroad students to help you adjust to the UK higher education system and be successful in your study abroad.

Accommodation

Study abroad students are offered housing with all our UK university partners, provided you apply by the deadline. The university offers accommodation varying in price depending on location, style and length of stay, so please speak with an advisor directly. Given the campus and accommodation facilities are less than a minute from the beachfront, you are definitely going to want to live on campus! Living in University housing is a great way to meet new people from around the world and develop life-long relationships and fantastic travel partners!

The requirements to study abroad in the UK and apply to the program of your choice are straight forward. In order to proceed with an application you need to make sure you have the following information:

  • Swansea Study Abroad Application
  • Official Transcript
  • Copy of your passport plus two passport size photographs
  • You will need to have at least a 2.8/4.0 GPA

Swansea's New Student Accommodation Coming Soon

Swansea University plans to build an additional 538 en-suite student rooms at the new £450m Bay Campus site as the next phase of student accommodation starting in January 2016 in time for occupation in September 2017. The Bay Campus provides academic, student accommodation and research space and has the distinction of being one of the few global university campuses with direct access onto a beach and its own seafront promenade. 

Swansea is located about an hour and a half West of Cardiff, the capital city of Wales. The campus is just one mile from the city center and transport links to places like London three hours direct. Hailed as the friendliest city in Wales it also offers lower living costs than most of the UK.
