New Call-to-action

Stirling, University of

The University of Stirling was founded by the Royal Charter in 1967 and is considered the first genuinely new university in Scotland in over 400 years. Beyond the stunning environment, central location and friendly atmosphere, several of the academic disciplines are rated top in Scotland. There are nearly 200 high quality degree combinations on offer to create the program best suited towards your strengths and help you achieve your goals in study abroad.

Between campus life, supported by the Students’ union, and the city life of Stirling, where one in every five residents is a student, there is always something to do and people to meet. Additionally, Stirling has some of the finest sport facilities in the UK and is often named Scotland's University for Sporting Excellence.

Stirling offers the perfect combination of city and campus based living with plenty of outdoor activities, modern facilities and a vibrant activity program. With easy transport accessibility to other major cities around the UK, superb academics and a campus with its own castle, you’ve got everything you need to have a successful and worth-while study abroad in Scotland.

You can expect to experience the following if you choose to attend the University of Stirling for your UK Study program:

Orientation

At the geographical heart of Scotland, Stirling naturally has superb links to the rest of the country and beyond. In particular, Edinburgh and Glasgow are both less than an hour away by road or rail and the Scottish Highlands are less than an hour away to the north. Built in the shadow of the Ochil Hills and Wallace Monument, the Stirling campus is situated on a magnificent 310-acre estate, centered on a large lake and 18th-century Airthrey Castle. You will be joining a student community of 13,000 students from more than 100 countries who account for 23% of the total Stirling student population. Study abroad students benefit from additional international support services such as airport meet and greets, accommodation check in support, specialized international welcome orientation and activities and more to help you settle into your study abroad experience.

Campus Life

The student union is responsible for running over 90 sports and society clubs for students, including study abroad, to get involved with. This is a perfect opportunity to meet students outside of your classes and residence halls. Additionally, you can partake in social events, which gives you the opportunity to explore not only the city of Stirling but also famous sites throughout Scotland.

Academics

Study abroad students are taught alongside British students enrolled on full degree courses. Unlike full degree students, study abroad students have the opportunity to register for courses in a range of academic areas and breadth. Additionally, there is a dedicated Overseas Adviser will advise on your course of study and the subjects you take during your study period. UK universities expect students to self-manage their time between lectures, tutorials and independent study hours. Additional support services are available for study abroad students to help you adjust to the UK higher education system and be successful in your study abroad.

Accommodation

Study abroad students are offered housing with all our UK university partners, provided you apply by the deadline. Even though the campus lies two miles from central Stirling, an historic city with a population of circa 41,000, most Stirling students still choose to live on campus. The campus is self-contained, meaning everything you need from food, health care and banking is housed right outside your front door. Typically, study abroad students are integrated and mixed with British, European and other international students. The university offers accommodation varying in price depending on location, style and length of stay, so please speak with an advisor directly. Living in University housing is a great way to meet new people from around the world and develop life-long relationships and fantastic travel partners!
