Royal Holloway, University of London is one of the top research-intensive institutions in the UK and is internationally recognised for excellent research and teaching across the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities.  The College has been part of the University of London for over 100 years and is one of the University’s largest multi-faculty colleges. On graduation all students receive a degree from the University of London, which is recognised globally.

The university is located on a campus near the town of Egham in Surrey and is frequently named as one of the most beautiful campuses in the world. All teaching, learning, accommodation and student support facilities are located on one main site. The campus is just 19 miles from central London, meaning that students can take advantage of local attractions such as Windsor Castle and all that London has to offer whilst studying in safe and attractive surroundings.

Orientation

Royal Holloway is ranked 6th in the world, first in the UK, in the category of 'International Outlook': recognizing a broader outlook as a global university. You will be joining a student community of more than 8,600 students from more than 100 countries. Study abroad students benefit from additional international support services such as airport meet and greets, accommodation check in support, specialized international welcome orientation and activities and more to help you settle into your study abroad experience. In addition to dedicated International Student Support staff, Royal Holloway also runs a Peer Guide program to help study abroad students settle into to the UK and university life more easily.

Campus Life

If you are looking for a campus-based university that combines the natural outdoors and accessibility into the big city of London, then Royal Holloway is for you. Set on a beautiful 135-acre safe and secure campus, Royal Holloway is just 19 miles from central London, seven miles from Heathrow Airport and is frequently named as one of the most beautiful campuses in the world. The student union is responsible for running over 100 sports and society clubs for all students, including study abroad, to get involved with. Additionally, international social events are a popular feature of the study abroad Program and provide an easy way to network with other students and enjoy different aspects of the rich cultural life in the UK.

Academics

Study abroad students are taught alongside British students enrolled on full degree courses across 19 academic departments. Study abroad students will also have access to department dedicated faculty member study abroad coordinators who can give advice and guide study abroad students in their studies. UK universities expect students to self-manage their time between lectures, tutorials and independent study hours. Additional support services are available for study abroad students to help you adjust to the UK higher education system and be successful in your study abroad.

Accommodation

Study abroad students are guaranteed housing with all our UK university partners. Typically, study abroad students are integrated and mixed with British, European and other international students. Because Royal Holloway is located just a short train ride to London, living on a self-contained campus with access to London is the best of both worlds. Living in University housing is a perfect opportunity to meet new people from around the world and develop life-long relationships and fantastic travel partners!

The requirements to study abroad in the UK and apply to the program of your choice are straight forward. In order to proceed with an application you need to make sure you have the following information:

  • 2 Academic References
  • Personal Statement
  • Official Transcript
  • Minimum general entry requirement at Royal Holloway is a cumulative GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0.
  • Drama, Theatre and History Departments  require a GPA of 3.3 out of 4.0.
