The University's roots date back to 1840 when it was founded by the Church of England. In 2004 it was granted degree awarding powers, officially establishing itself as the University of Winchester. The University continues to strengthen its position as a top provider of higher education, currently ranked tenth for teaching excellence in England in The Times and The Sunday Times 2016 Good University Guide, and fourth for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey 2015.

Winchester is a little over an hour South West from London and about 30 minutes North of Southampton and the Southern coast of England. Winchester is one of the UK’s highest-ranked, most beautiful and safe cities. The campus is situated in an ancient cathedral city that is truly English feeling, with a small, welcoming and friendly community. With close proximity to London, but a small-town feel, Winchester offers the perfect balance of true English living and the opportunity to run around London and be a tourist on the weekends.
