The University of Edinburgh is one of the world’s top 20 universities and is based in a stunning location, mixing a wealth of history with cosmopolitan living. The student community is made up of more than 33,000 students, with more than a third of those coming from outside the UK from over 140 countries.

Edinburgh has been an inspiration to artists and writers for centuries; it was named the world’s first UNESCO City of Literature, in recognition of the city’s rich literary heritage. A singularly beautiful city Edinburgh’s medieval Old Town and its neoclassical New Town are protected as UNESCO World Heritage Centres. It’s the juxtaposition of these two different structures – each with its own exceptional historical significance and their contrasting architectural styles which makes Edinburgh’s cityscape arresting and unique.

Edinburgh is also Scotland’s premier sporting University. There are 64 sports clubs encompassing fencing to skydiving, horse riding to ice hockey. The world-class facilities comprise gyms, residential outdoor activities, a swimming pool, playing fields and the leading sports injuries clinic in the country. Welcome/Orientation

Campus Life

With over 250 student societies and a Student’s Association, study abroad students have access to a fantastic range of extracurricular activities to develop student interests, make friends and socialize. The City of Edinburgh is a perfect companion city to your study abroad experience with local markets, fairs and events throughout the year, you will never find yourself being bored.

Academics

Study abroad students are taught alongside British students enrolled on full degree courses across 19 different schools. UK universities expect students to self-manage their time between lectures, tutorials and independent study hours. Additional support services are available for study abroad students to help you adjust to the UK higher education system and be successful in your study abroad

Accommodation

Study abroad students are guaranteed housing with all our UK university partners. Typically, study abroad students are integrated and mixed with British, European and other international students. Living in University housing is a great way to meet new people from around the world and develop life-long relationships through cooking together, going out or sitting around the common areas just getting to know each other. 

The requirements to study abroad in the UK and apply to the program of your choice are straight forward. In order to proceed with an application you need to make sure you have the following information:

  • Academic Reference
  • Personal Statement
  • Official Transcript
  • You will need to have at least a 3.0 GPA

Scottish Summer Programs Now Open!

Summer programs are a great way to experience and see a lot of the UK quickly and inexpensively. You still get all the same benefits of a semester program including academic credit, specialized international student orientation, social programming and on campus accommodation, but you have the start date and length of program flexibility you need to accommodate your budget and busy summer schedule. This year two of our Scottish partners will be offering Summer courses, the University of Edinburgh and Stirling University.

The University of Edinburgh is Scotland’s capital university. If you are looking for fast-paced, urban-centred university living, then this is it. Stirling University is about an hour North West of Edinburgh and is set on a wonderful green, campus with their very own lake and castle. The town is small, friendly and welcoming to university students and is home to great transport links to Edinburgh and other parts of Scotland. If you’re looking for a picturesque Scottish location to explore the great outdoors and feel the sun on your face this Summer, Stirling is your home.

Spend the Summer in Scotland's Capital City

Always dreamed of studying and living in Edinburgh but a full semester abroad just doesn’t make sense for you? No worries! The University of Edinburgh’s robust summer programming offers you the chance to take general education courses as well as core courses in Art, Business, Economics and Politics, Language and Culture, Philosophy and Education. Courses start weekly starting the beginning of June through August so you can choose when and for how long you are abroad.

The University of Edinburgh is Scotland’s capital university. If you are looking for fast-paced, urban-centred university living, then this is it. Integrated throughout the city, you’ll most likely end up walking the busy high streets or taking the bus/train to and from class everyday.
