Orientation 

Aberystwyth University has been respected throughout the world for high quality academics since it was established in 1872 as the first University in Wales. The university is located in a seaside town and is home to the National Library of Wales, one of Britain’s great copyright libraries, which students have easy access to. You will be joining a university community of more than 10,000 students where international students represent 20% of the total student population. Study abroad students benefit from additional international support services such as airport meet and greets, accommodation check in support, specialized international welcome orientation and activities to help you settle into your study abroad experience. Additionally, you’ll have loads of opportunities through university programing and the friends you meet to explore Wales and the rest of the UK as much as you want.  

Campus Life 

The student union is responsible for running all sports and society clubs for students, including study abroad, to get involved with. This is a perfect opportunity to meet students outside of your classes and residence halls. According to the Times Higher Education’s Student Experience Survey, Aberystwyth offers the best all round experience in Wales, so you’ll be sure to have a great time on and off campus. The campus is one mile from town meaning most locations are within walking distance, including two cinemas (one on campus), one arts center (best in Wales and on campus), plenty of pubs and a weekly market. Aberystwyth’s great outdoor space gives you the opportunity to try new sport activities including hang-gliding, parachuting, riding and rambling. In 2012 the university was designated an Olympic training venue for mountain biking as well.  

Academics  

Study abroad students are taught alongside British students enrolled on full degree courses. Aberystwyth is 2nd in Wales for quality of research and world-leading research takes place in 15 of 16 subject areas. With many degree programs, you can easily find courses that match your academic interests and fulfill requirements set by your US university. UK universities expect students to self-manage their time between lectures, tutorials and independent study hours. Additional support services are available for study abroad students to help you adjust to the UK higher education system and be successful in your study abroad. 

Accommodation 

Study abroad students are offered housing with all our UK university partners, provided you apply by the deadline. Typically, study abroad students are integrated and mixed with British, European and other international students. The university offers accommodation varying in price depending on location, style and length of stay, so please speak with an advisor directly. Living in University housing is a great way to meet new people from around the world and develop life-long relationships and fantastic travel partners!

  • Please note: Advanced Science Courses are priced at £7,325 a term and £14,750 for a full year due to additional lab expenses.

  • £80-£125 per week
